Gordon

Director & Building Certifier (JP Qual)

Qualifications: MAIBS, AAIB, MQJA, MLGMA, ABDAQ, MDIA, Adv Dip Bldg Svyg, Adv Dip Bldg, Grad Cert Bus Admin, Qualified Building Certifier

Current studies: Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, Graduate Diploma in Building Surveying and Graduate Certificate in Fire Safety Engineering

Gordon established CBAS in 2007. As founder and director of the company, Gordon aims to ensure client satisfaction by providing a professional, suitable and timely service. Gordon is a qualified BSA licensed assistant building surveyor with over 10 years experience in the private and public sectors.

Gordon’s experience stems from a range of roles within the industry including coordinator of approval services in Mackay City Council’s (now Mackay Regional Council) Building and Plumbing Business Unit and roles as a building certifier in the Sunshine Coast region.

Through this experience, Gordon has gained a comprehensive knowledge of planning and building legislation requirements and their application. Gordon has been appointed as a referee by the Department of Local Government and Planning and has attended several tribunal hearings as referee.

Nerelle

Director (JP)

As co-founder and director of the company, part of Nerelle’s role is to assist Gordon in providing professional approval services to our clients.

Nerelle’s additional role includes assisting the administration staff with the building applications from beginning to end including conducting the required searches for the building application.


Annie

Administration Co-ordinator/Finance Officer

After seven years as an administrative officer and 2IC with various companies in Brisbane, and helping her brothers in the building and engineering field, Annie decided to expand her skills by gaining knowledge on how the building approval industry worked.

Annie started with us in 2010 as Receptionist/Administration Officer for Mackay Pool Fence Inspection, a division of Coastal Building Approval Service.  She has now been promoted to the Admin Co-ordinator/Finance Officer position.  

In her new role, Annie manages the building application from the beginning to the end, managing resources, collating reports, proof reading and project tracking to the final delivery and invoicing.  Essentially, it is Annie’s role to manage the building application files to allow the Building Surveyors/Certifiers to concentrate on the technical aspects.

Annie has become an integral part of the Coastal Building Approval Service team with her unique ability to co-ordinate a busy work schedule while at the same time applying her knowledge and experience in administration to provide the necessary stability for the company to continue growing.

In her spare time, Annie thoroughly enjoys any activities involving the great outdoors and riding her motorbike.

Snow

Building Certifier (JP)

Qualifications: MAIBS, Qualified Building Certifier

Snow is a building certifier who was previously employed for 10 years by Mackay City Council at Complete Approval Service in the Building and Plumbing Business Unit. Snow is well-respected by the builders in the Mackay Regional Council area and brings to the company a wealth of knowledge with over 37 years experience in the building industry.

After 20 years as a qualified builder and with his strong track record in both commercial and domestic construction as well as knowledge of building industry, he decided to
pursue a career in building surveying. Today he is a qualified BSA licensed assistant building surveyor and is an accredited member of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors

Peter

Engineer / Building Inspections

Qualifications: B. App. Sc(Eng), Grad Cert Mgt

Peter is a well-known Mackay local who commenced employment with CBAS in November 2007. Peter brings a wealth of experience and local knowledge to our growing team of certifiers having spent the past 38 years in the building and engineering industry.

As a qualified mechanical and civil engineer, Peter was a lecturer for over 12 years at various universities in the mechanical and civil engineer stream and has consulted the Transport and Works Department for the Northern Territory Government.

Undoubtedly a ‘people person’, our clients easily relate to Peter as he is a very approachable person who understands their issues and enquiries. While he is very capable of applying his knowledge he also has the ability of conveying solutions to give clients a complete understanding.

Kerry

HR/Media Officer (JP Qual)

Qualifications:Diploma in Business (Marketing/Law), Adv Diploma in Management, Certificate 4 in Front Line Management, Certificate 4 in Small Business Management, MYOB Accounts & Payroll, MS Office, Excel & Powerpoint.

Current: Certificate 4 in Human Resources

Kerry’s duties include all things HR and Advertising/Marketing/Media.  She has also been employed to take on the executive administrative and HR tasks that Gordon, as a busy Certifier, does not have the time for.

Kerry comes to CBAS with over 18 years of administrative/management experience.  She spent eight years in real estate property management and the remaining ten years in high level administrative roles, usually as executive support to Directors/Managers.

Kerry spent over five years in her last position as an Executive Assistant/HR Officer.  Her role involved a variety of things including all HR functions, researching and reporting on compliance issues and managing the transition between Work Choices and the Fair Work Australia Act.   Her last role in this position was working on compliance for the new WHS Harmonisation Laws, which came into effect in January 2012.

Part of Kerry’s previous role was to manage a commercial building in Mackay CBD.  Her first task was to complete certification for this building which has given her an appreciation of the legalities and complexities involved in the Building Approval process.

Kerry is married with three children.  In her spare time she likes to travel with her family and cook/entertain friends at home.

Fiona

Reception / Admin Officer (JP Qual)

Qualifications: Certificate 3 in Business Administration, Certificate 3 in Telecommunications, MYOB Accounts & Payroll, White Card.

Current:  Bachelor of Construction Management.

Fiona is new to the CBAS team and we welcome her on board as a valued team member.  As the primary point of contact for customer enquiries, Fiona can assist in providing advice and direction to enable you to lodge your building application. 

Fiona comes to CBAS with extensive experience in reception and administration.  We are  fortunate in that she has had administrative experience within the building industry.  Her most recent position was at North Burnett Regional Council in Mt Perry.   

Fiona is currently studying for a Bachelor of Construction Management and we hope that as the company expands, that she will be able to move onto a role of Cadet Building Surveyor.
